What is Acupuncture?

At W6 Physiotherapy, acupuncture is used alongside physiotherapy treatment to help manage pain and support rehabilitation.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine sterile needles into specific areas of the body and may be used to help reduce pain, relieve muscle tension and improve movement.

It is often combined with exercise therapy, manual therapy and rehabilitation programmes to support recovery and help you achieve your goals. It is not offered as a stand-alone treatment.

Why Is Acupuncture Useful?

Pain and muscle tension can sometimes make it difficult to move comfortably or participate  fully in rehabilitation.

Acupuncture may help reduce symptoms and improve tolerance to movement and exercise, allowing rehabilitation to progress more effectively.

Who Can Benefit?

Acupuncture may be useful for:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Sports injuries
  • Muscle strains
  • Tendon-related pain
  • Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow
  • Persistent musculoskeletal pain

Acupuncture can help…

Reduce musculoskeletal pain

Relieve muscle tension and spasm

Improve movement and function

Support rehabilitation and exercise progression

Assist recovery following injury

During your assessment, we will discuss your symptoms, medical history and rehabilitation goals to determine whether acupuncture is appropriate for your condition.

Treatment involves the insertion of fine sterile needles into specific areas and is usually combined with other physiotherapy treatments as part of a personalised rehabilitation programme.

Your physiotherapist will explain the procedure fully and answer any questions before treatment begins.

  • Enes Arikan Clinic Manager / Specialist in Sports & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation
  • "I would like to say thank you for treatment and kindness during my recent prolapsed disc problem. My problem was diagnosed on the first visit, something my GP had been unable to do, the treatment was planned individually for me and I have been shown the exercises that should help to prevent a relapse. Now, after your treatment my back feels better and more flexible than it has done for years."

    Mr P. Eaton
  • "Great support and encouragement backed up by expertise. Really made a difference – I'm capable of more than I thought possible. Took time to understand prior condition plus surgery and developed programme accordingly. Assessed progress throughout. Would recommend without hesitation."

  • "Brilliant experience! Really understands sports and athletes. I was training to run a marathon, and instead of telling me to stop (which he knew I would not) the team really helped me to get to the finish line. Could not speak more highly of this practice! Thank you!"

  • 'My husband had two rounds of physio with Enes so I knew I would be in good hands when it was my turn for some physio. Enes combined exercise setting which we practised together, massage as well as lots of useful tips and knowledge sharing. After 5 sessions, the improvement was clear and I will not hesitate to reach out if any issues flare up in the future. The portal used for viewing the exercises which contained videos was very helpful too.'
