What is Acupuncture?
At W6 Physiotherapy, acupuncture is used alongside physiotherapy treatment to help manage pain and support rehabilitation.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine sterile needles into specific areas of the body and may be used to help reduce pain, relieve muscle tension and improve movement.
It is often combined with exercise therapy, manual therapy and rehabilitation programmes to support recovery and help you achieve your goals. It is not offered as a stand-alone treatment.
Why Is Acupuncture Useful?
Pain and muscle tension can sometimes make it difficult to move comfortably or participate fully in rehabilitation.
Acupuncture may help reduce symptoms and improve tolerance to movement and exercise, allowing rehabilitation to progress more effectively.
Who Can Benefit?
Acupuncture may be useful for:
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Shoulder pain
- Sports injuries
- Muscle strains
- Tendon-related pain
- Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow
- Persistent musculoskeletal pain

What to expect from your Acupuncture Treatment
During your assessment, we will discuss your symptoms, medical history and rehabilitation goals to determine whether acupuncture is appropriate for your condition.
Treatment involves the insertion of fine sterile needles into specific areas and is usually combined with other physiotherapy treatments as part of a personalised rehabilitation programme.
Your physiotherapist will explain the procedure fully and answer any questions before treatment begins.
